私は、写真を通じて「時間の流れ」を可視化することを主な目的としています。

写真は一般的に「一瞬」を切り取るメディアですが、私の関心はむしろ、その背後にある連続した時間の存在にあります。目には見えず、触れることもできない「時間」という概念を、いかにして視覚表現として提示できるか。それが、私の創作の根底にある問いです。

この探求には、二つの大きな理由があります。

一つ目は、私自身が生きる上で「時間」という存在をどうしても意識せざるを得ないからです。時間はすべての人に等しく与えられ、常に進み続け、そして決して戻ることのない現象です。その不可逆性と普遍性は、私にとって非常に美しく、同時に畏怖すべきものでもあります。写真という媒体でその流れをとらえようとする試みは、私自身の存在や生のあり方を見つめ直す行為でもあります。

二つ目の理由は、私が写真という表現に求めているものが、音楽や映像といった時間芸術に近いからです。これらのメディアは、一定の時間をかけて体験されることが前提とされています。私は写真においても、そのような「鑑賞に時間を要する表現」が可能であると信じています。鑑賞者が写真を見つめる時間、思索する時間、過去の記憶と照らし合わせる時間——そのような一連の体験を通じて、写真が静止画でありながらも時間的な奥行きを持ち得ることを目指しています。

さらに、私はエンジニアとして、自らの手でカメラや撮影システム、ソフトウェアを設計・開発しています。写真表現において、カメラという装置は単なる道具ではなく、世界との接点であり、表現の条件そのものです。技術的なアプローチを通じて、どのような構造の機器で、どのように時間を取り込むか——その選択肢を自ら設計することで、私の作品には技術と芸術の交差点が内包されることになります。

「時間の流れ」は、誰にも止められず、誰もが生きる中で感じ続けるものです。だからこそ、その流れの中にこそ、人間の生の美しさが宿ると私は信じています。そして私は、その美しさを、写真というかたちで世界に提示していきたいと考えています。

My work as a photographer centers on visualizing the flow of time.
While photography is typically considered a medium that captures single moments, my interest lies in what lies beyond that instant—the continuous, invisible passage of time. How can one render something as abstract and elusive as time into visual form? This question drives my creative practice.

There are two primary reasons I pursue this exploration.

The first stems from a deeply personal desire to express the phenomenon of time as something fundamental to existence. Time is ever-present, always moving forward, and never visible to the eye. Yet it defines every aspect of our lives. I am drawn to its irreversibility, its universality, and its quiet beauty. Through photography, I aim to make time perceivable—its finiteness, its persistence, its quiet power.

The second reason lies in how I perceive photography in relation to other time-based media such as music and film. These forms are designed to be experienced over a set duration, to unfold in time. I believe photography, too, can invite a temporal experience—not just through what it depicts, but in how it is viewed. I want to create photographs that ask the viewer to spend time with them, to reflect, to recall, to engage in a slow and thoughtful manner. In this way, even a still image can carry the presence of time.

Additionally, I am also an engineer. In photography, the camera is not just a tool; it is the interface between the world and the image, a device that determines what can be seen and how. I design and build my own cameras and software systems, tailoring them to the expressive needs of each project. This integration of technical invention and artistic intent is essential to my work. It allows me to question the conditions under which an image is made, and to reconfigure them in pursuit of new visual possibilities.

Time flows continuously. No one can stop it. Everyone lives within it. And I believe it is within this flow that the quiet beauty of human life resides. My photographs are an attempt to make that invisible current visible—to render the passage of time not just as a concept, but as a felt, visual experience.
